Chicago "White Jazz"
Position of white musicians in jazz has always been ambiguous. Jazz music is widely known as a Afro- Americans music, it is extraordinary when white musician tried to play jazz music. Afro- American people always consider jazz as their "family affairs". Even some white people unreservedly assert that «true jazz" is the prerogative of the Afro- Americans. It isn’t a secret that jazz originated in the black circumstances. With entering the United States in World War I in 1917, the government declares New Orleans as a strategically important town, and under this conditions, it has close places of entertainment, giving work to many musicians. Because of this, starting a powerful migration of musicians to the North, primarily in Chicago, where the beginning of the 20-ies concentrate best musical force, both from New Orleans and other U.S. cities. That’s why Afro- American influence on jazz development is considerable. But don’t underestimate the role of white musicians in the history of jazz formation.
White jazz arrive to peak in the early 20's. New Orleans` jazz is appeared parallel with the original Afro- American style in Chicago. This new style called "white" jazz, it inherit the tradition of Western musical culture despite the influence of the original jazz. New interesting musical direction in 1920 was created under the influence of records "Original Dixieland Jazz Band". Musicians of this trend called "Chicago school of jazz," because the most famous of them had studied in Chicago at Austin College and their ensembles were predominantly in the city.
The best of the white Chicago jazz clarinetist are Leon Rappolo and trumpeter Bix Beyderbek. Leon Rappolo became the first white jazz musicians who have created their own school performance, the effect of his school influenced not only on white singers, but also some black ones.
So, in the late 20-s group of white musicians, including Teagarden, Pee Wee Russell, Benny Goodman, Bix Beyderbek created new history of music. Despite on dominate of the Afro- American actors; white musicians have already started talking in a loud voice. In general, white and African-American artists working in isolation, which is extremely, limited their influence on each other. Some elements of white Chicago jazz were joined to the dance music that helps to spread new wave of music throughout the world. New style is essentially became the edge between the original jazz and swing.
